Children & Family Portraits at Fabrick Collective

A classic portrait, with room to be yourselves

Have you been putting off family photographs, only to notice how much your children have changed while you were waiting?

These short sessions give you something to hold onto, a glimpse of who you are together at this stage of life, without needing to set aside a whole afternoon. I’m bringing the same warmth and attention to connection I seek in my documentary photography into a simpler, more classic portrait setting. A little gentle guidance, room to be yourselves, and photographs to keep as they grow.

What to expect during your session?

  • A few minutes to settle in:

Please arrive five minutes before your appointment so we can begin on time. We’ll say hello, help the children feel comfortable and get everyone ready.

  • Gentle guidance throughout:

You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide where you sit or stand and give the children simple, playful prompts. There’s no need to - actually please don't - practise a perfect smile.

  • Portraits of the people you love:

Depending on who joins and how the children settle in, we can photograph children individually, siblings together and the family. We’ll work within the 15 minutes, allowing your children’s comfort and cooperation to guide us. Specific combinations or expressions cannot be guaranteed. The photographs shown on this page are examples of my family photography and editing style. Your Fabrick session will take place against a simple cream backdrop, with a more classic portrait approach.

  • Choose your favourites at home:

By November 29, you’ll receive a private gallery of edited photographs. Choose and download your four included images directly. If you love more, additional digital images are CA$15 each. There’s no obligation to purchase extras.

Can we have individual portraits and a family photograph?

We can work toward both within your appointment. Because these are short sessions, the combinations we capture will depend on time and the children’s cooperation. The four included photographs are your choice from the finished gallery.

What if my child is shy or doesn’t want to smile?

That’s okay. I am more than used to children being their charming exhausting selves.  Children usually connect quickly with me. I’ll offer gentle encouragement and work with how your child feels in the moment. Also, a beautiful portrait doesn’t have to include a big smile. The whole idea is to show who he is right now!

Who are you BTW?

I’m Giselle, the photographer behind La Toile de Giselle.

Based in Ottawa, I offer documentary-style family photography with a warm, observant approach grounded in connection. I have an eye for the small gestures between people; the way a child leans into a parent, a shared laugh between siblings, or a mischievous glance that hints at what a child is planning.

For this collaboration with Fabrick Collective, I’m bringing that same approach to short, gently guided portrait sessions: a chance to create something beautiful together, without needing to be perfectly posed.

What should we wear?

Choose clothes you feel comfortable and yourselves in. Cream, blue, oatmeal, soft browns, muted colours and simple textures work beautifully with the backdrop. But more important that anything, choose something familiar you like and feel comfortable in.

You don’t need matching outfits. Avoid large logos or busy patterns if you’d like the focus to stay on your faces.

What if we arrive late?

Please arrive five minutes early. Late arrival may shorten your session, as the next family’s appointment cannot be delayed. If you miss your allotted time, I may be unable to photograph your family, and no refund is provided for missed time.

When will we receive our photographs?

Your edited gallery will arrive by November 29, within one week of the event. You can choose and download your included photographs straight away.

Physical prints have a separate production and shipping timeline.

That said, please don't sue me if I was little late.

How does the $50 credit work?

To use your $50 full-documentary familly session credit, contact me using the same email address as your mini-session booking and mention the Fabrick portrait day. I’ll apply the credit to your invoice.

One credit per family. It cannot be used toward mini sessions, combined with another promotional offer or exchanged for cash.

Will you share our photographs online?

Only with your permission. You can accept or decline use of your photographs on my website and social media when completing your agreement. Your choice will not affect your session or the photographs you receive.

Can I cancel my booking?

Bookings are final. No client cancellations or refunds are permitted..

If I need to cancel the event, you will be offered a full refund or an alternative arrangement.
