What To Expect When You're Expecting ....

A Photoshoot?

I’m so excited to photograph your family and preserve a little piece

of your life together.

My approach combines gentle guidance with documentary photography. The goal isn’t to make everything look perfect, it’s to create warm, natural photographs that genuinely feel like your family.

What to expect;

The session lasts approximately one hour.

I work lightly and simply, usually carrying one camera with one lens.

The session will generally have two parts; we’ll begin with some gentle direction. I may bring you together in different areas of your home, suggest simple games, ask questions, or give you prompts that encourage natural interaction. There may also be a little relaxed posing, but nothing stiff or overly formal.

In the second part, your family will do an activity you genuinely enjoy together. It could be baking, making breakfast, playing a game, reading a story, drawing, dancing, playing outside, or simply spending time together in a familiar way.

During this part, I’ll step back and photograph what naturally unfolds with as little interference as possible.

Preparing your home

Your home doesn’t need to be spotless or perfectly styled.

I want you to fight the urge to hide every toy or remove all signs of everyday life before the photoshoot. Those details are part of your family’s story.

Keep the mess, there's nothing I haven't seem before.

What to wear

Choose clothes that make you feel comfortable and beautiful.

Colours such as blue, white, brown, and beige usually photograph beautifully, and it’s preferable to avoid clothing with large logos.

That said, if you have a red dress, or anything else, that you love wearing and feel wonderful in, please wear it. Feeling comfortable and like yourself is far more important than following a particular colour palette.

Most importantly, make sure everyone, including the children, can move, play, and cuddle comfortably.

Natural light

Natural light is an important part of my photography so I will be natually drawn towards well-lit corners of your house.

You’ll often find me lingering near a large window or glass door, like a mosquito drawn to the light, only significantly less annoying.

About the children

Children don’t need to sit still, smile on command, or behave perfectly during the session.

They can move around, become distracted, take breaks, spit up, spill things, or need some time to feel comfortable with me.

I’ll follow their energy and give them space when they need it.

Before the photoshoot, please let them know that I’ll be coming to take pictures and that they can be themselves. They’re welcome to approach and interact with me in their own way and at their own pace.

The safer and more comfortable they feel around me, the more naturally their personalities will come through in the photographs.

The most important thing

Please don't ask the children to smile or look at the camera.

I’ll offer direction when needed, but otherwise, let them respond and interact naturally. If anyone needs a snack, feeding, changing,

or a short break, that’s completely fine.

Trust me, the more you forget I am there, the better the pictures will turn out.

Thank you for this opportunity!

I can't wait to meet your family
